Chyna F2 Sphynx

Chyna F2 Sphynx, originally uploaded by <@m@nd@>.

Well...We are slowly getting all the girls reaquainted. Chyna still hates pagoda and vice versa.

What does F2 mean? People ask me that almost everyday! Well...an F1 would mean First Generation outcross or half Sphynx (all kittens have hair but carry the hairless gene). An F2 is when an F1 is bred to a Sphynx...at that point they are Second Generation and half or more of the kittens in that litter will be hairless....Hairless or not they are all still F2 sphynx. The funny thing about sphynx F1's, F2's, F3's etc. is that they are more Sphynx as the generations get later and not the other way around! For instance, a F4 Savannah Cat is only 1/16th Serval (the parent wild breed) and is not very much like a serval at all but a F4 Sphynx is 15/16th's Sphynx and is concidered PureBred.

Is that allowed? Yes, most registeries allow Sphynx outcrossing since there are still very few lines (family trees)...a lot of breeders, yes, but most share a few names in the pedigrees. When this (a shallow gene pool) happens in other breeds it can cause serious birth defects and hereditary disease (weak immune systems, diabetes, heart defects, kidney failure, predisposition to cancer etc.). So, outcrossing is a way of bringing in new "blood" to old lines.

Chyna on Tie-Die, 3rd Day Home

China has arrived! Today is her 3rd day home! We are so happy!

Chyna is a F2 Coated Sphynx outcross lilac (lavendar) lynx point with white. Outcrosses are a necessary part of most Sphynx breeding programs. Outcrossing enables breeders to strenthen the genetic health and broaden the gene pool of a particular line. Outcrosses have saved many lines from extinction and deserve our respect. Chyna has beautiful kittens, however, only the coated F3's will be offered to reputable breeding programs, not the hairless as we preffer anything less than a hairless F4 to strictly be a pet.

With the use of Feliway she is making GREAT progress in the intergration process! There is less growling from both her and pagoda and she has decided that she now approves of little harmless Tina!!

This was Chynas blog from her second day home:

Chyna does not approve of either Tina or Pagoda but she doesn't mind my two puppies.
Pagoda is not impressed with Chyna and has been growling to herself for the past 10 hours.
Tina couldn't care less and is oblivious to Chynas presence.
Lilee and Baileys were curious for a few minutes and got their sniffs in but soon realized it's just a cat with hair and went on about their business.
I can already tell that the real Challenge is going to be getting Pagoda and Chyna to accept eachother.

Chyna will be visiting the vet shortly for a blood and fecal exam and her annual vaccinations.

Pagoda will be visiting the vet soon for the same check-up and to be cleared of HCM before breeding (this will be the second listen! Everything came out great last time.).

Tina will be visiting the vet soon for her spay, vaccinations and blood/fecal and most likely a teeth cleaning while she's under....I'm really worried about the anestesia so cross your fingers and toes!

Both Pagoda and Chyna start their pre-natal vitamins on the 15th of this month...wish them well because it has been known to give kitties upset tummies for a few days!

Don't ever let anyone tell you that being the gaurdian to a little creature (or 5) is a cheap endeavor...it's not! And people wonder why purebred cats are so expensive!!

Mrs. Chyna

Mrs. Chyna is on her way! She will be here Sunday Night! I'm so excited, I haven't seen her in 8 months or so and I don't know if she will remember me or not! I'm more concerned whether or not she will remember Pagoda and Valentina...They all pretty much matured together with Chyna a teenager who was playing nuse maid and the two girls at different levels of infancy. Mrs. Chyna is a coated F2 Sphynx and a relative of Pagoda...She is a lilac lynx with white and has similar markings. I have one teenager picture of her (the one posted with this) but if you know me at all you know I will have a million pictures of her up in a matter of days.

Pagoda is a little fruity

Pagoda is a little fruity, originally uploaded by <@m@nd@>.

Pagoda is a very special girl. She is a Lilac Lynx point with White Sphynx, one of the rarest colors/patterns you will find in hairless cats. She was born to China (not Chyna) and William on May 21st 2007. She was the smallest in a litter of five so I had to hand feed her for several weeks of her life. She was allowed to sleep with her brothers and sisters and learn her manners from her first time mother. Pagoda never really treated her mother like a mother...she had imprinted on humans...so us humans had to teach her how to be a cat (litter box, biting manners, unecessary roughness etc.). Well, I got so attached to my little hairless daughter that I decided she would live with me forever. Now Pagoda is actually on the large side for her breed and she hasn't quite reached a year old. She lives here in Manistee, MI along with her half sister Tina (from another mother) who was also the runt of her litter. She has a full brother in California and one in Ohio who she has not seen since she was 11 weeks old and a half brother living in SE Michigan who she keeps in contact with. Some of Pagodas nick names are Goady, The Goat (she will eat anything) and stinky (she gets gas sometimes because of her eating habits).

Pagoda's Got a Boyfriend

Pagoda has a boyfriend :) She is recieving Sire Service from JSheba Sphynx of Muskegon, MI at the end of june. Her due date will be around Mid September and her babies will be going to their tenderly choosen homes around X-mas. We are so pleased!

Also, there is a chance her long lost friend Mrs. Chyna (an F2 coated sphynx outcross 1/2 sibling) will be comming to live with us soon...nothing is set in stone but we are praying!!
